Effect of Laughter Yoga in IT professionals to overcome the professional stress

Summary

Currently growing IT industry with their target oriented jobs pose workloads causing stressful working environment. Professional stress in extreme conditions can be linked to mental and physiological illness. On the contrary, yoga practice can help in bringing down stress and accomplishes relaxation and focus. As the saying goes "Laughter is the best medicine", in this project, we investigated hormonal and physiological changes in stressful IT personnel with an intervention of Laughter combined with yoga, known as "Laughter Yoga" by its founder Dr Madan Kataria. We recruited IT personnel from major KPOs and software firms. As the representation of hormonal changes, we monitored salivary cortisol and IgG, and IgM levels. We even considered heart rate, respiration rate, blood pressure and skin conductivity physiological parameters. Our findings confirmed that laughter yoga improves the hormonal and physiological health of the professionals.
